Christian Anders – A dazzling, torn personality
Christian Anders was born on January 15, 1945 in Bruck an der Mur, Austria, as Antonio Augusto Schinzel-Tenicolo . He spent the first part of his childhood in Sardinia and only came to Germany at the age of ten. At first, everything looked like a bourgeois career: electrician, engineering studies. But the music-loving youngster preferred to tour the country with US combos.
In 1966 he got his first record deal; in 1969 he had a surprise hit with “Geh' nicht vorbei ” (Don't Pass By): more than a million singles were sold in just six months. His unmistakable voice and catchy melodies brought him many more hits in the following years, including “ Nie mehr allein ”, “ Es fährt ein Zug nach Nirgendwo ” , “ Sech Uhr Früh in den Straßen ”, “Einsamkeit hat viele Namen” (Loneliness has many names) and “ Verliebt in den Lehrer” (In love with the teacher ) .
He was the protagonist when it came to pop songs with a melancholy touch paired with a philosophical touch. Even though his hits – like so many other German songs of the 1970s – mainly consisted of platitudes.
Anders also tried his hand at writing. In 1976 he published his novel “ The Letter ” , which was also serialized in BRAVO under the title “ Explosion of a Love ” .
He also gets to act in films, but doesn’t leave a lasting impression in films like “ When the Great Aunts Come ” and “ We’re Going to Pan Out the Landlord ” .
He is notable for his extravagance: he likes to be chauffeured to performances in a Rolls Royce, prefers to wear fur coats and likes to leave presenters and journalists standing there speechless. In 1974, he was awarded the "Golden Thistle" by a jury of experts for "arrogance, rebelliousness, airs and self-importance".
At the end of the 1980s, Christian Anders went to America and only returned in 1993, spiritually transformed, as 'Lanoo' (Sanskrit for student). Since then, he has repeatedly attracted attention with spectacular stunts: He claims that the AIDS virus was artificially bred and deliberately transmitted to blacks and homosexuals; he chained himself naked to the gate of the remand prison in Aschaffenburg, where his brother was being held for receiving counterfeit money, and offered his then 20-year-old fiancée to an interested millionaire.
Christian Anders was never an artist who wanted to fit into the mainstream .
His music, Books and films often reflect personal beliefs and opinions that are often polarizing and controversial at the same time . This earned him both recognition and criticism . However , his ability to evoke emotions - whether through Music, lyrics, actions or Films – an unforgettable character the German pop scene but also the tabloids .
