Politically, the seventies are often seen as the decade of extremes and crises. This also applies – with reservations – to music. Compared to the rather uniform events of later years, the seventies were – to put it bluntly – a real blast. Seldom before and even less since has musical diversity been so great, the genres and their protagonists so different. Here the garish glam rockers with their platform shoes and flared trousers, there the punks with their spiky hairstyles and the dirty-kid image of the no-future look.
