Stars of the 80s – KajaGooGoo

Nick Beggs (born 15.12.1961), Christopher Hamill (born 19.12.1958), Steve Askew (born 09.12.1957), Jeremy 'Jez' Strode (born 17.01.1958) and Stuart Neale (born 05.08.1960) call themselves KajaGooGoo . Frontman Christopher is the group's heartthrob. He reads his last name backwards and he has found his stage name: ' Limahl '. The example of the group KajaGooGoo is a good example of how artists are mercilessly exploited and how a quick end to their career is unfortunately often unavoidable and almost inevitable. The fact that the music press contributes a large part to this is explained in more detail here:

With the hit » Too Shy « (four million records sold), KajaGooGoo catapulted themselves to the top of the reader charts for four weeks in May 1983 and were celebrated from then on by BRAVO as the superstars of the scene. The largest and most popular youth and music magazine has many tools at its disposal for this: stories, autograph cards, posters, star albums, star cut-outs , reader competitions (who is the readers' favorite KajaGooGoo ?) with attractive prizes (worn underwear from Limahl , etc.), OTTO votes, and so on and so forth. Of the 35 issues between No. 18 and No. 52 in 1983, KajaGooGoo or individual members of the group - primarily Limahl - graced the cover of BRAVO 32 times. Limahl , the group's front man and winner of the above-mentioned competition, is crowned the megastar of superstars. This in turn creates pressure within the group, jealousies arise and the previously so often invoked group community becomes fragile. Finally, Limahl believes that the group exists mainly because of him and for him and becomes comfortable with the idea of a solo career. Both parts of the group now continue their careers separately, but unfortunately neither the four remaining KajaGooGoos (from now on they just call themselves Kaja ) nor solo Limahl can musically fulfill the fans' high expectations.

After a few small successes, KajaGooGoo disappear into oblivion as quickly as they appeared. Limahl has a big success with " Never Ending Story " , the title track from Michael Ende's film adaptation of the Neverending Story (seven weeks at number 1), but after that, nothing exciting can be heard or seen from him. Today, KajaGooGoo are just a small side note in the fast-moving music business that hardly anyone remembers. But at least they are immortalized forever in this little blog!
